doctor_j_crane: Crane looking like he's arguing. (Let me explain)

[53] - [Voice]

You know, after all the months fawning after Adam I'd imagined that some of you would tire of his presence. But all I hear in the dining hall is about Adam. "Adam saved me during a flood." This person had a tryst with Adam. Adam is such a wonderful person.

Well, let me tell you a story about Adam, barge. It was during a particularly nasty port where myself and a former barge member called Irene Adler were stuck in a ward, attempting to avoid being gruesomely murdered by no less than one dozen undead patients. Despite Adler's skills and my efforts, we were unable to hold off the hoards of undead. You can understand our surprise when Adam burst into the room and started assisting us. We managed to kill the zombies, following a rather ingenious plan of Adam's involving a puddle of water and some faulty wiring on one of the medical machines.

Do you see the problem with this story, barge? Adam could have killed both Adler and I. But he was so wrapped up in his heroics that he failed to consider that some of us might not want to get electrocuted. He simply didn't care. Instead, he forced his plan on us and hoped for the best. [Crane does not sound impressed.] Classical Adam. No sense of boundaries, no urge to ask permission or for the input of others. And yet, he seems to be one of the most well known people on board. I fail to understand his appeal.

[Rant over. Crane pauses for a few moments.] Hayley. Claire. Nygma. I want to talk to you three. Despite my continuing lack of filters.

[OOC: Sorry, Adam. Crane is so emotionally functional in how he shows his respect. Also, his flood affected-ness is to be more empathetic, so he might feel bad if you bring up past issues. Although you might not be able to tell.]

[Eddie strides over a short while after, greeting Jon with an unusually warm smile. With his fear of meaningful relationships gone, he's able to better indulge in genuinely caring about his friends.]

Good afternoon.

[He taps the art door, granting Jonathan entrance. He'll close it behind him once they're both inside.]

What 'issues' do you feel are in need of a private discussion?

[Crane looks slightly confused at Eddie's rather bright attitude. The last time they met he'd been planning bloody murder against Arthas, so the change in demeanor was surprising. Just like how Crane was feeling uncomfortable with what Eddie had suggested for a host of new reasons.]

Good afternoon. You seem very- [How to put it without being too offensive?] chipper.

[Crane steps inside the art room, glancing around. It looks... like an art room. Time to turn to Eddie.]

Arthas, for one. [Crane pauses.] And you. In general.

Aren't I usually? [As far as the barge is concerned, he is. It took times of high emotion to get him in a bad mood.

Edward claims a stool for himself, and then offers Jon the one beside him. The suggested topics make him purse his lips, but his smile remains unwavering.]

Go on. Continue.

Yes and no. [Neutral answers for the win. Crane takes the stool that Eddie offers and leans against the table. Eddie's unwavering smile is disturbing him somewhat.]

You can't try and get Arthas back for what he did. That, combined with what you've done in the past, could end up getting you demoted. It happens, Nygma. [Said with seriousness and maybe even some measure of visible concern.]

[That shakes Eddie's cheery demeanor. He slips a hand up the side of his face, and then leans his chin on it.]

I won't. I realize it's futile to end the cycle by continuing it. The repercussions on my end wouldn't be worth it.

[He stares at Jon, calmly.]

I've had time to reconsider my impetuous decision.

[Crane looks away, looking frustrated.] I told you that I wouldn't tell Eames. You don't have to lie to me about it.

[Because as far as Crane was concerned, that was the only reason that Eddie would change his mind so fast.]

I'm not trying to deceive you. I had time to think about it. My motives. His motives. They don't justify the needless anguish we've put each other through.

[He remains completely serious, unusually so-- or typically so, as this is something he has done numerous times in the past. Jonathan merely hadn't been around to observe.]

How charitable. [Crane shrugs.] I'm glad that you've listened to my advice. Chances are Arthas will barely recall what happened in a month.

[That did seem to be Arthas's way of dealing with problems. Blinding rage followed by continuing indifference.]

[An elbow slides back onto the art table and he leans away.]

I suspect the lack of functioning circulatory system is eating away at his hippocampus. Or so we can hope.

[Forgiving someone didn't necessarily mean speaking well of them.]

Hypothetically. I like to imagine that he progressively rots each week and has to request that the Admiral patch him up. [Crane shrugs, smiling.] It's a pleasant thought.

[Eddie returns the smile.]

Who better to make that diagnosis than a doctor?

[A chuckle.] The poor fellow. Something must be rotting in that head of his.

It's the scientific conclusion, considering his lack of normal human functioning.

[A slight pause.] Yes. Presumably due to the lack of oxygen flow.
