Well, I’m not really sure what to say.

[Beat, in which Crane looks pensive. But only for a second.]

No, actually, I know exactly what I want to say.

To the “Riddler”, you are without a doubt the worst warden on the entire barge. It’s wonderful that you’re willing to convince someone who’s clearly flood affected to try and jump off the deck. Next you thing you know, you’ll probably just be killing inmates on your own steam. That’s more effective, isn’t it?

Adric, it’s just chess. You clearly have some kind of obsessive personality to make it into some huge issue. Move on.

Libby, no one on the barge cares about your relationship and apparently sexual dysfunction. That is not something that anyone needs to hear.

To the other denizens of the barge, especially all the new ones, welcome to your life. Prepare for floods of varying varieties that tell you exactly what you didn’t want to know about your fellow inmates and wardens. If you’ve got a problem with it, I’d suggest taking it to the Admiral, but we don’t exactly see a lot of him.

I know I say this about everyone, but he is actually insane. He thinks he knows me, but only not me, another me. From a parallel dimension. Who apparently finds it acceptable to be called 'Jon', which I don't.

A...parallel dimension, Doctor Crane? I think you and I might be in agreement. However, he seemed a perfectly pleasant man.

I did promise to speak with him again in a week's time. Should I be wary of anything?

Be wary, but no more then anyone else. I don't think he's physically violent, whatever else he may be. He seems to prefer to use his mind, judging by those riddles.

Riddles?

Mainly the bad jokes on his personal journal. He may be trying to be 'funny'.

I fail to see the humor. But, he doesn't seem particularly dangerous. However, before I leave...

[She leans forward and fishes something from her desk. When she sits up, there are a few dried herbs resting there, dark in color. They weren't particularly harmful, but, well, she wasn't sharing information.]

Did you still want these? Or should I just...dispose of them?

I definitly want them. [Crane answers more or less instantly.] Only if you're absolutely sure that you don't require them any more.

Excellent. I have no direct use for them here. At least not in these amounts. They are just what I had to teach the children.

[She leans forward toward the screen now, her smirk turning to a more or less genuine looking smile.]

You will put them to good use, won't you?

I will. I'll also give you fair warning in case their use has some effect. [Crane smiles, leaning back and taking a quick look at the books on his desk.]

I have been doing a fair bit of work in the past week, if nothing else.

[She follows his glance to the books, but does not comment on them.]

Oh? And what work have you accomplished?

Just some foundational research. I don't know if what I'm thinking is possible yet, but if it is, I'll make sure to tell you more.

[She scoffs a bit and leans back, waving a hand in dismissal.] Oh you quiet types and your secrets. Did you sit in the back of the class in school, Doctor Crane?

Well, I don't want to get your hopes up, in case it doesn't work. And yes. Yes I did.

I thought as much. [She shrugged.] Keep your secrets Doctor Crane. But for now, I must go. Enjoy the rest of your day.

[She leaned forward and disconnected the feed.]

[Crane is surprised, but shrugs. Ms Rose seemed very tempamental sometimes. He goes back to flicking through one of his books, wondering how he can best use her herbs.]
