I would like to apologize- [He stops, because he sounds sarcastic. It's like a natural reflex. He continues on more normally.] I would sincerely like to apologize to Hayley Stark for dosing her with a highly unpleasant fear toxin last July, according to the calendar that the Admiral has inflicted on us. It was unwarranted in her case.

[Added later: Crane sounds exasperated.] And in the case of anyone else who was affected at the time.

[Added even later: Crane's getting used to it.] Including people who were directly killed as a result of it, otherwise indirectly impacted or generally traumatized by the experience. At the time I clearly needed to work out who was deserving of what.

What does this 'fear toxin' entail? Other than the obvious.

Well. [Crane is actually kind of pleased that someone is showing interest.]

Aside from the obvious, it's a certain chemical that's specifically created to increase the fear response in the brain and the central nervous system. It heightens the primal fear response and by a combination with outside stimulus it can have quite an extreme effect on the subject at hand. Anything along the scale of mild hysteria to death.

[A mild pause. It's like listening to Yusef all over again... with Fischer's voice. Even so, colour him interested.]

Yes. It's such common knowledge I can't even be bothered to be secretive about it. Anyone on the barge would be able to tell you the same thing, which makes me think that you didn't know my Gotham counterpart.

Why are you impressed? I believe that the default response to hearing about it is being shocked that I made it and then concerned that I might use it on someone. Namely yourself.

I have no reason for shock or concern under such matters.

Perhaps. Although I would appreciate it if you kept such creations away from me when experimenting.

Given that I'm an inmate, I'm not currently experimenting on anything. That would be against barge rules.

A pity that this barge doesn't accept creativity.

You're being asked not to encourage things you don't understand. I'd have expected you to want more information before making any judgment.

I was not making judgement, I was making an observation. You have little to be concerned with, Mr. Eames, your inmate is behaving himself on the matter.

I trust him to do as much.
