doctor_j_crane: Crane looking to the left, making a weird face. (Not awesome)

[42] - [Voice, so painfully public]

I would like to apologize- [He stops, because he sounds sarcastic. It's like a natural reflex. He continues on more normally.] I would sincerely like to apologize to Hayley Stark for dosing her with a highly unpleasant fear toxin last July, according to the calendar that the Admiral has inflicted on us. It was unwarranted in her case.

[Added later: Crane sounds exasperated.] And in the case of anyone else who was affected at the time.

[Added even later: Crane's getting used to it.] Including people who were directly killed as a result of it, otherwise indirectly impacted or generally traumatized by the experience. At the time I clearly needed to work out who was deserving of what.

It's not beyond me. But you try and make things more complex than they really are.

So somewhere between the simplicity of you and the complexity of me is probably how things really are.

[Pause.] That could use some further thought.

And this is why math should be the basis of everything. Because when you stray from it, as you tend to do, Doctor, you start seeing patterns that don't really exist.

Or you fail to see patterns that are more complicated than math can present. Once again, we're at opposite ends of the scale.

More complicated than math can present. I'll just let you think about that for a while.

Math can't solve everything, Capa. Just most things. Being on the barge is evidence of that.

And your...science...can't solve much of anything.

Really, Capa? You really want to get into the whose science is better argument again?

Not really. But...there we are.

Very mature. Trust me, your views on the matter have been noted.

You're lecturing me on maturity?

Screw you, Crane.

No. I'm just not playing this game with you.

Because of the flood, we missed our time last Wednesday...your Saturday. Did you want to work tomorrow instead? We might be able to get some lab time in.

If you say so.

That would be excellent. It's also not like I have anything better to do tomorrow.

Good. I'll see you tomorrow.
