doctor_j_crane: Crane looking neutral. (Shrink Talk)

[7] - Belated Flood Reaction [Video, Public]

[Crane is in his room, and visible next to him is a stack of books, with titles pointedly turned away from the camera.]

Well, I’m not really sure what to say.

[Beat, in which Crane looks pensive. But only for a second.]

No, actually, I know exactly what I want to say.

To the “Riddler”, you are without a doubt the worst warden on the entire barge. It’s wonderful that you’re willing to convince someone who’s clearly flood affected to try and jump off the deck. Next you thing you know, you’ll probably just be killing inmates on your own steam. That’s more effective, isn’t it?

Adric, it’s just chess. You clearly have some kind of obsessive personality to make it into some huge issue. Move on.

Libby, no one on the barge cares about your relationship and apparently sexual dysfunction. That is not something that anyone needs to hear.

To the other denizens of the barge, especially all the new ones, welcome to your life. Prepare for floods of varying varieties that tell you exactly what you didn’t want to know about your fellow inmates and wardens. If you’ve got a problem with it, I’d suggest taking it to the Admiral, but we don’t exactly see a lot of him.

[Private to Jack Tyler]

Thanks. [Crane looks as if saying that is causing him physical pain.]

[Private to Ms. Rose]

I am sorry about not talking to you earlier. I’ve been… indisposed. Thank you though, for being one of the few people in the flood to keep a level head about you.

[Private to Max]

I’m just getting some things off my chest. That’s not going to be a problem, is it?

OCC: PHPHPH I haven’t done my final exam, and I know I say this every time I post, but I am actually slow timing. Really. I just wanted to make sure this was up well before port. Also, sorry for the long post. >___>

With all due respect, despite what everyone here says, we're not on a barge. We're in Arkham. They're dosing us with some chemical to ensure that we think this is a barge, probably to reduce attempts at escape.

[Have a smirk.]

Excellent. I have no direct use for them here. At least not in these amounts. They are just what I had to teach the children.

[She leans forward toward the screen now, her smirk turning to a more or less genuine looking smile.]

You will put them to good use, won't you?

ZING :D

I'm not the one who thinks he's an alien. And trust me, just because you're in denial about this being an asylum, it doesn't mean that it isn't.

Those were my thoughts, but one of the commenters made a valid point. It's pretty well regulated for a hallucination.

But really, what difference does it make? Arkham will burn just as prettily.

[identity profile] alzarian-youth.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
And just because you're in denial about your death doesn't mean you aren't dead. 'Bye, Dr. Crane, I've got better things to do.

I will. I'll also give you fair warning in case their use has some effect. [Crane smiles, leaning back and taking a quick look at the books on his desk.]

I have been doing a fair bit of work in the past week, if nothing else.

[She follows his glance to the books, but does not comment on them.]

Oh? And what work have you accomplished?

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's still a hallucination. They're all lying to us. Even the decent ones.

Still, my primary concern is whether I would be in it at the time of said burning.

Just some foundational research. I don't know if what I'm thinking is possible yet, but if it is, I'll make sure to tell you more.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
If you insist.

[identity profile] ahahaaahooo.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
We all have to make sacrifices.

How do you know it's a hallucination? You lived through the fear gas. Is this the same?

[identity profile] preachyrose.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
[She scoffs a bit and leans back, waving a hand in dismissal.] Oh you quiet types and your secrets. Did you sit in the back of the class in school, Doctor Crane?

Private

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
It's not the same in effect, but it's the same in principle. Just, like you said, more stable. Given time and materials, I would probably be able to duplicate the effect.

And for the record? That's not an acceptable sacrifice.

[identity profile] ahahaaahooo.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
They say we come back...

What would you need to test it?

[private/video] sleep's good for you. :|

[identity profile] youdaman.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Max takes out her all familiar cherry chap stick and runs it across her lips before replying.]

Not in my experience, no. Usually it's something different every time... because the ship is always moving.

[identity profile] christ-onabike.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Yeah, got it.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's obviously not possible. I've seen people injured here, of course, but never die. They're exaggerating.

I'm making some enquiries at the moment. Suffice to say, I have the knowledge, but only half the materials and none of the equipment.

[identity profile] doctor-scarf.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's alright that you lost to Adric, you know. He's quite the exceptional chess player.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't lose to Adric.

[identity profile] puzzleprince.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Pointless killing isn’t a motivation. I in no way encouraged you to jump off the deck, that was your own bright idea. All I did was make the occasional remark regarding our mistaken identity issue.

[Pause.]

It’s Edward Nygma, if you don’t mind. Riddler is a retired name.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Frankly, I don't particularly care. You were hardly a figure of social responsibility. While I wouldn't except a warden here to have high standards, I still think that you've come out at the bottom of the pile.

Oh, I think I prefer Riddler.

[identity profile] puzzleprince.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes, lets disregard the flood's influence on my actions and have a whine. Very professional of you.

...Why?

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm an inmate. It's not my job to be professional.

Why not? Do you have some kind of issue with it?

Private - Video

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't want to get your hopes up, in case it doesn't work. And yes. Yes I did.

[private/video] :D

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-06-17 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that's a relief. I will never recover from the horror that was that... child flood.
