[Crane is sitting at his desk, and is looking at a rather large spider that is currently walking up his arm.] It's fantastic to know that there's such a wonderful system for dealing with emergencies on the barge. I was under the impression that when someone demonstrated uncontrollable powers people might be inclined to follow a procedure to contain them, rather then standing around and brainstorming.

[Have a moment of quiet seething, while Crane takes the spider off his shoulder and lets it start crawling around on the table.]

This flood is also ridiculous. I fail to understand how having leaves falling on the deck is designed to make us 'better' people. If anything, it would just encourage anyone with a lighter to make a bonfire. Books from the library would make good fuel, wouldn't they? [Nope, totally not encouraging other inmates to do bad things. Definitely not.]

If anyone does decide to do that, at the very least stick to some useless romantic fiction books.

[Oh look, Crane put his spider back in the tank while he's talking to Eddie.] I'm assuming that you're either dead or have had your powers contained. If you are hypothetically alive, can I have the key to your room? I need to use your equipment.

Would you be able to take Nygma some of his books to zero? My warden is unlikely to take me down there. Apparently Nygma's fine, but bored. He also requested painkillers.

[OCC: Crane is flood affected, and for the new people the spiders are his pets. They come from the broom cupboard. It's a beautiful story.]

Oh. [Crane is surprised by this.] On moral or safety grounds? Or both?

As it was Timothy who trussed me up and shoved me in here, a bit of both. [Eddie is dismissive; it's not the first time he's been behind bars.] Even with company, it's tediously boring.

The more I learn about this Timothy, the more I dislike him.

I'd visit you, but I don't think I can without a willing warden. [Crane doesn't think that Pookie will agree to it.] I could ask Rose to head down with some of your books and her rather more agreeable warden, if you'd like?

Please do. There's only so long conversation with Master can placate me. [He rubs the bridge of his nose.] And painkillers, if possible. That electricity did a number on my muscles.

I'll ask her. Her warden's been reasonably obliging in the past. [Pause, thinking about the master.] You aren't sharing cells down there, are you?

We're separated-- thankfully-- by a wall of bars. Look past the mammoth ego and he's actually managable company.

If you say so. In any case, how long are they keeping you down there for? You can easily argue that what happened was beyond your control.

I would, Jonathan, but it seems an awful imposition...Painkillers are going to be especially difficult to get. [Read: What does she get out of it?]

It's rather irritating, I know. [Sigh.] But Nygma has been very helpful to my research in the past. So it's more doing me a favor than him. I would make it up to you, in future. [Answer: IOU.]

[Oh she likes that. Especially with burn-y sacrifices in her future.]

I'll see what I can do. It might take me a day.

Until the possibility of a repeat session with my electrical powers is eliminated. Three to four days, give or take. If I speak up, perhaps less.

Your electrical powers? I was under the impression that it was a one off occasion, not something that you had regular ownership of.

[And here Crane was assuming there wasn't anything she could ask of him that he'd find surprising.]

Sooner would be better, but I understand the constraints of these sorts of things.

Now think about this, Jonathan. If I ask him for pills, as well as for a trip to zero, even my dimwit of a warden will make the connection. I have to ask the infirmary staff, and you know how agonizingly slow they are, without his knowledge and then sneak them in with the books.

True, but you could hypothetically ask the infirmary for the painkillers upfront. I don't imagine that they'd deny bringing one of their own that sort of thing. Unless, of course, you don't want to be associated with Nygma?

I imagine that you'll be unsurprised to hear that I put a lot of store in unintentional slips. Let me guess. You quite liked briefly having that power, before it got out of control?

I have my own ideas, Jonathan. Let me do what I need to do.

I will. Do what you need to do. I trust that your warden is still reasonably agreeable?

I'm a cerebral person. That sort of naked energy and pointless chaos-- things that don't pertain to the mind-- don't appeal a great deal to me.
