doctor_j_crane: Crane looking neutral. (I See)

[29] - [Video]

[Crane is sitting at his desk, and is looking at a rather large spider that is currently walking up his arm.] It's fantastic to know that there's such a wonderful system for dealing with emergencies on the barge. I was under the impression that when someone demonstrated uncontrollable powers people might be inclined to follow a procedure to contain them, rather then standing around and brainstorming.

[Have a moment of quiet seething, while Crane takes the spider off his shoulder and lets it start crawling around on the table.]

This flood is also ridiculous. I fail to understand how having leaves falling on the deck is designed to make us 'better' people. If anything, it would just encourage anyone with a lighter to make a bonfire. Books from the library would make good fuel, wouldn't they? [Nope, totally not encouraging other inmates to do bad things. Definitely not.]

[Inmate filter]

If anyone does decide to do that, at the very least stick to some useless romantic fiction books.

[Private - Eddie]

[Oh look, Crane put his spider back in the tank while he's talking to Eddie.] I'm assuming that you're either dead or have had your powers contained. If you are hypothetically alive, can I have the key to your room? I need to use your equipment.

[Added later - Private - Ms Rose]

Would you be able to take Nygma some of his books to zero? My warden is unlikely to take me down there. Apparently Nygma's fine, but bored. He also requested painkillers.

[OCC: Crane is flood affected, and for the new people the spiders are his pets. They come from the broom cupboard. It's a beautiful story.]

[Gee, thanks, Crane!]

There's going to be a delay. As you can see behind me, I'm in Zero.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Crane is really nice like that.]

Oh. [Crane is surprised by this.] On moral or safety grounds? Or both?

[private]

[identity profile] puzzleprince.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
As it was Timothy who trussed me up and shoved me in here, a bit of both. [Eddie is dismissive; it's not the first time he's been behind bars.] Even with company, it's tediously boring.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
The more I learn about this Timothy, the more I dislike him.

I'd visit you, but I don't think I can without a willing warden. [Crane doesn't think that Pookie will agree to it.] I could ask Rose to head down with some of your books and her rather more agreeable warden, if you'd like?

[private]

[identity profile] puzzleprince.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Please do. There's only so long conversation with Master can placate me. [He rubs the bridge of his nose.] And painkillers, if possible. That electricity did a number on my muscles.

I would, Jonathan, but it seems an awful imposition...Painkillers are going to be especially difficult to get. [Read: What does she get out of it?]

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's rather irritating, I know. [Sigh.] But Nygma has been very helpful to my research in the past. So it's more doing me a favor than him. I would make it up to you, in future. [Answer: IOU.]

[identity profile] preachyrose.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh she likes that. Especially with burn-y sacrifices in her future.]

I'll see what I can do. It might take me a day.

Private

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
[And here Crane was assuming there wasn't anything she could ask of him that he'd find surprising.]

Sooner would be better, but I understand the constraints of these sorts of things.

[identity profile] preachyrose.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Now think about this, Jonathan. If I ask him for pills, as well as for a trip to zero, even my dimwit of a warden will make the connection. I have to ask the infirmary staff, and you know how agonizingly slow they are, without his knowledge and then sneak them in with the books.

Hey. Stay away from my library.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, if anything I was warning you of the potential dangers that your library could suffer.

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
If it burns, I'm blaming you.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't seem overly just. I merely made a suggestion. It's not my responsibility if someone chooses to follow it.

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
You don't like my library and you don't like fall leaves. I'm not sure we'll ever get along, Crane. [ Doesn't she just sound so upset? ]

inmate filter.

[identity profile] deepdowndark.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
If anyone decides to do that, I will be forced to stop them. By any means necessary.

Just so you all know.

inmate filter.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
The way you talk is almost enough to make me think you were a warden. A fire of fire, perhaps? Or just of disorder?

Re: inmate filter.

[identity profile] deepdowndark.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I am one of the wardens of these books, and they will never burn under my watch.

inmate filter.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think that the term you're looking for is librarian?

Re: inmate filter.

[identity profile] deepdowndark.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I am aware of the term. I was turning your phrase back on itself.

Also, 'warden of texts' is a more literal translation from the Dwarfish.
cisskabob: (Bored now)

[personal profile] cisskabob 2010-10-08 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Taking a page from my former inmate's book, hmm? What did those nasty books do to you?

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Someone lit a fire? How interesting. Was it particularly successful?
cisskabob: (Arms crossed)

[personal profile] cisskabob 2010-10-09 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Someone tried, because he was from a world where books are illegal. But it wasn't successful at all, no.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Let me guess. O'Brien? His world does seem rather backwards.
cisskabob: (Beatty gives me headaches)

[personal profile] cisskabob 2010-10-09 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
No. Captain Beatty. He's gone now, though.
