doctor_j_crane: Crane looking neutral. (Through my glasses you look small)

[60] - [Voice]

For reasons totally unrelated to the recent flood, I've recently turned my mind to the issue of barge romantic relationships. [Crane sounds awkward just saying it.] Frankly, I'm confused as to why anyone could ever think that it ever would work out. Ignoring numerous public examples of messy arguments between wardens and inmates alike, I've never in my experience heard of a prison being described as a good dating environment. While the inmates do obviously suffer a certain lack of options, it's the wardens that persist in romantic liaisons that surprise me.

How can your supposed relationships have real meaning if they have an expiration date date? Or would you be willing to give up your family, friends and universe for one person who seemed like a good option while you were in a prison? You can believe me when I say that it isn't only unrealistic, it's unhealthy. It's no more valuable than a relationship forged in a war zone, done by the same messy necessity and a certain need to settle for what is available, no matter how substandard. It's disturbing how easily you all seem to give in to the delusion that it means something. It doesn't. It just has that sliver more meaning than the rest of your pointless existence on the barge. Furthermore, it's a disservice to your inmates and not to mention a failure in your duties as wardens. You're not here to find meaningful relationships with each other. You're supposed to be helping us.

[Pause. Crane sounds slightly more amused.] I hadn't done this in a while. It's highly therapeutic for me to tell you all the ways that you're wrong. I recommend it highly to other inmates.

[Private- Edward Nygma]

It could be slightly related to the flood. [The longest pause.] I'm not sure that I want to talk about it. I do apologize though.

[OOC: Whoops, going to do that post and run thing. Will be back in eight hours, after sleep. <3]

Of course not.

They don't hold down a job that's like the barge where you're always on duty. The two can't be compared.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, my concern is dismissed because you're too immature to process anything beyond pop culture references. Why on earth are you a warden?

I suppose not.

Of course you wouldn't. That's how I know that I'll get a reaction.

Private- Iago likes to play his cards cleverly. : D

It has nothing to do with normality and everything to do with the wardens. Not everyone is obsessed with how they appear to others.

And would that be enough for you?

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
I might have heard about this before. What is a Time Lord, exactly?

[identity profile] shortsghtedlove.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Considering that they're one of the more prominent non-human species aboard, he's genuinely surprised that Crane doesn't know.]

The Time Lords are the oldest and most powerful species of the universe, and native to the planet Gallifrey. We have conquered time and have acted as protectors of the Web of Time. [They also destroy planets and people when they deem it necessary, but that just doesn't sound as nice.]

Out of curiosity - do you make posts because you're trying to get people to want to hit you, or is that an unintended side effect?

Private - especially with Crane

[identity profile] inhumandog.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's a relief, Crane. I would hate for people to think that I give a shit about their feelings towards me.

[identity profile] flashy-magic.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[identity profile] ichoosefight.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Because I have this magical ability to cut through the unimportant bullshit and the depressing stuff that we have no control over and still find a way to make jokes. It's a pretty effective technique, I've found.

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
A doctor is always on duty. A police officer. They can be called up at all hours. A farmer.
everylittlegirl: (wait are you crazy)

private; Sorry, should have said.. 'expiration date' would probably fit best, but 'use by' can work.

[personal profile] everylittlegirl 2011-07-02 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
What?

Do you even get any pleasure out of that reaction?

Private - ccc:

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
You obviously do. If you didn't, why would you do such public posts about your personal business?

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Not people like you, I assure you. The wardens are usually my intended target.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Even after everything you've seen and done on the barge?

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
You have control over everything that I've mentioned in this post and you have the power to hold other wardens accountable. You choose not to. You choose to make jokes instead.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
They could get called up rather than being actively on duty. There's still a difference.

private

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Some. It depends on what the reaction is.

private; Changed it to expiration date, because it sounds fancier. c:

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have an issue with you being offended. I was just wondering what exactly offended you specifically.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Pause.] The Web of Time. Which is what, exactly? [Crane's heard bits and pieces of this, but never the whole lot in detail. It's a lot to take in.]

I fail to understand why the Admiral insists on doing this sort of thing to us.

[identity profile] 19centconstable.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see how. Unless you think nobody being wardened is deserving of any amount of trust. On which I believe we'll have to agreed to disagree.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
We'll agree to disagree, then. I take it from the tone of this conversation that you're a warden yourself.
