doctor_j_crane: Crane looking neutral. (More shrink talk)

[22] - Voice

I have a specimen that I think has lived in a bucket for a little too long. I would like a proper enclosure for it. Admiral, it can be plastic if you don't think I can be trusted with glass. [Crane sounds thoroughly unimpressed by this. He's referring to a non poisonous huntsman spider, that appeared in a Rom Com cupboard with Eddie and himself.]

[Crane pauses before continuing.] I'm rather surprised that the murder in the garden was handled so well. Was it because the culprit was reasonably obvious or due to actual police work?

[Private - Rose]

The garden is less quiet than I would have expected. I trust that you weren't affected by the recent events?

[Private - Hayley]

I want to show you some instructions. I need to know if you're capable of performing them.

If that was my area of science, I'm quite sure I'd want to spend a great deal of time examining you. Unfortunately, my speciality lies in other areas. Although I do have to wonder how an andriod appears to be a better warden in comparison to other human wardens.

I believe there are good human wardens here, but like with any other environment experience is a factor. I have thirty-nine years of experience as an enlisted officer with an interstellar fleet with a primary goal of diplomacy. I have more experience resolving conflicts than many of the wardens.

[...Though, now he is wondering slightly, since he had been doubting his abilities as a warden.] I do hope you make the observation genuinely, and thank you it.

A space android police officer. This place will never cease to amaze me.

Oh, I'm never anything less than genuine. I mean everything that I say.

Nothing extremely out of the ordinary has happened here except for the ship's ability to navigate between realities in my view. That and the primitive behavior of most of the humans, but given their eras such tendencies are understandable.

You were the one who developed the fear gas, correct?

[Private]

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-09-10 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, that isn't out of the ordinary. A perfectly normal, everyday occurance. Although the primative behavior of humans isn't based on eras, but is simply the foundation of human nature. I'm surprised that you weren't aware of that.

Yes. It's reasonably common knowledge that the toxin was my invention.

In my time war and disease have been disposed of on a planetary level. The factors leading to them are viewed as unnecessary in that society and are recognized as only useful on an anthropological level to preserve one's self in conflict situations.

That is uncertain here. You may have your memory affected or you might be a quantum alternate from a slightly varying timeline. Occasional verification is a necessity here.

My inmate had difficulty understanding the function of the fear toxin and was afflicted with it himself. He is now in the infirmary and should someone affect hallucinatory responses he may have to treat them. Having experience with the effects may give him better insight into how to treat victims, but his knowledge is still limited as he comes from the early 19th century. You seem to be a very thorough scientist, so would you would recommend that I could request of the Admiral?

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-09-11 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
How, exactly, was disease disposed of? [Crane's not sure that he buys this.] The very nature of a disease is to evolve. It seems unlikely that such a force of nature could be driven to extinction, and to do so would remove a valuable part of numerous ecosystems.

It's not my job to tutor under qualified doctors. If he's not qualified, put him on janitorial duty. I, personally, would be insulted to be treated by someone so sub par.

Only genetic conditions remain, and those are treatable through various symptom management, either chemical or therapeutic. Occasionally new diseases are encountered in space travels, but given medical knowledge they are quickly contained or eradicated.

He is not a doctor, he is an intern, though he is already learning at an exponential rate of his own accord. I was simply making a request on his behalf, but as you are not interested I will not persist on the matter.

[Crane finds that concerning, but wants to know about crazy future chemical science.] I'd be interested in reading about that, if you had the materials. Out of intellectual curiosity.

I doubt that I would be permitted to work in the infirmary, regardless of whether I wanted to or not. The staff don't trust me.

[He knows that Crane is dangerous, and supplying him with resources could be moreso. Especially since he honestly doesn't see anything wrong with what he does. He doesn't want to be taken advantage of, but if Crane is on board, it means he still has the capacity to one day help people. And if he consulted Martha and Piper beforehand, perhaps it would do more harm than good.]

I will, at least, see if I would be permitted to supply you with Starfleet medical records pertaining to prenatal testing. That is where many conditions can be diagnosed and treated.

[Private] - I swear, the pile of crazy things that Crane has in his room already. XD

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
That would be very helpful. [Crane was somewhat disappointed, of course, but at the same time surprised that Data was willing to give him anything at all.]

I imagine that I might be able to make some interesting conclusions by the standards of my time period.
empirical_data: (curious 3)

[Private] - He's getting all alchemist up in here.

[personal profile] empirical_data 2010-09-13 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
I do not doubt it. I have found myself consistently impressed by the intellect aboard this vessel and the range of time periods it has been drawn from. Perhaps not with the personalities accompanying that intellect, but everyone has been highly adaptable.

[Private] - It's awesome. :D

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
I've found the opposite regarding the intellect of the people here. It seems to be a fair lot of the ordinary, run of the mill, unimpressive minds that populate most societies. But as you say, with less desirable personalities.

[personal profile] empirical_data 2010-09-15 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Have you had negative experiences with "unimpressive minds"? My ancestors held a somewhat similar view to yours. My father even refused to work within Federation jurisdiction.

[identity profile] doctor-j-crane.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
There are many people who disregard by methods. I think that they reject what they don't fully understand. I can understand your fathers jurisdictional issues. I've run into similar things before.
