[It's pretty clear by the large amount of people in the background that Crane's currently sitting in the infirmary.]

Apparently, zombies exist and are fairly hungry. [Crane sounds absolutely terrible. As in worst sore throat ever. Important things got eaten by the zombies, bb.] Also, we seem to actually be on a magical barge.

[Pause]

Cue the candid camera moment. Your experiment is successful. I actually have gone so far over the other edge of things that I think this place might actually exist.

[Five seconds of slow clapping. Clap, clap, clap.]

My main question is why would the Admiral do this to us? What does he gain? Why is this happening? Why are we here? What are you wardens getting from this? Why not just leave us to rot after being dead?

[After putting that large amount of effort into that little rant, Crane bursts into a fit of some pretty serious coughing. After he finishes, he turns back to the camera, even raspier then before.]

Why do all of you people put up with this?

Thanks. For keeping me company in the infirmary. [Not sarcastic, genuine.]

Well then. I suppose most of the drama would have been just in the port itself. [The infirmary was getting more and more unpleasent with evey moment he spent in it.] Do you think there's any chance I'd be able to leave the infirmary?

[Max raised her brows.] I think if you're able to recover in your room I don't see why not. It's better that you ask McCoy.

Apparently, there's not a lot they can do. [Crane would go ask McCoy, perhaps tomorrow when he was feeling better.] Grindelwald keeps talking about how he could heal all of this- [Crane made a sweeping guesture to the infirmary] in a second, but the Admiral won't give him his powers back.

[Max made a face.] I don't trust Grindlewald farther than I can throw him.... which is pretty far.

Is there any reason in particular for that? He seems like one of the more harmless inmates. [Crane shrugged.]

I know a little bit about where he's from. [She paused.] Just handle him with caution.

Either he's quite delusional, or the people where he comes from are quite powerful. Either way, probably cause for caution. [Looking around the infirmary, Crane noticed that someone was missing.] Where's Alastair?

Alastair? [Max paused.] Was he supposed to be in here?

He's been in a coma. [Crane said carefully, double checking what he could see of the ward.] He's still in a coma?

I'm pretty sure he was coherent for port. [Max looked a little wry.]

By coherent, you mean conscious and hypothetically being able to move about? [Crane was of the opinion that Alastair was safest in a coma, since being dead apparently didn't take here.]

[Max gave Crane a sage nod and smoothed out the covers beside his ankle.] that's more or less what I mean, yep.

He's in zero, right? [Crane tried to ignore the cover smoothing. There were issues here. He couldn't get distracted by the invasion of his personal space.]

I'm not sure, Crane. I'm not his warden... I'd have to check in with his warden. [Max pulled her hand back and let it rest in her lap.] Are you going to ask me to keep tabs on all the inmates? Because there's going to be a point where I tell you that you need to fight your own battles.

With Alastair? Are you joking? He pushed me down the stairs, and for no good reason. And the Joker, he's- [Crane couldn't find the words for it, so he changed the subject.] How am I supposed to fight my own battles against those lunatics? They'll kill me.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Alastair... I've had to tote his ass to zero. [Max' face took on a stern look but her eyes were still their soft hazel hue.] I'm not going to deny that this place isn't a battlefield but you're not going to get anywhere if I'm holding your hand. The Joker bit is justifiable because you two have history and I can understand the logic. Unfortunately the physical assualt wasn't brought to my attention at the time in question and is more or less a moot point. You're intelligent. [Her glanced grew firm.] Knowledge is power and strength. Find your bearings, Crane. I know you have it in you to do more than play mouse.

That's not what I'm saying... not at all. [Max frowned.] I'm saying that the other inmates find ways to coexist with the lunatics. [She quoted the last words with her fingers.] You need to do that too. I can't hold your hand for this, you need to tread your own ground.

[Crane breathed in deeply. Sighed.] Fine. I take your point. [If she didn't want to help, then that was fine. Crane didn't care. Or was trying not to care.]

I can get my kicks in for you when it's right... [Max gave him a kind look.] But beyond that you need to figure out how to stand on your own too.

No, that's reasonable. [Crane shrugged.] Besides, they have their own wardens to handle their... unique behavioural issues.

That's more or less it. [Max reaffirmed with a playful tone.] You can come to me when it matters though... and I'll have your back.

I'd offer you the same in return, but you seem to have this place worked out. [Crane shrugged.]

[Max lifted her hands and dropped them exasperatedly.] I've been here for about a year, that's more or less a given.

That's a lot of time to spend in this anarchy. Couldn't you leave, if you wanted? [Crane couldn't keep a little bit of resentment out of his tone. At least Max had that option.]
