Given that the prototype for the tranquilizer is going so well, it's probably time that we tried it out. We'll need a delivery system and something or someone to test it on. Voluntarily, of course. I also think the CES might also offer a controlled, yet variable environment to do testing in.

I'd rather have a list of competent individuals that have passed some form of screening process, rather than keeping my fingers crossed when the infirmary puts out a call for extra staff that they're not going to get someone grossly incompetent providing medical assistance to unsuspecting patients.

We've had that policy going on for months. McCoy came up with it at someone's suggestion, and the people I just listed are all people who help out when they need us. The problem last port was that there were a lot of people hurt or dead, including some of the staff.

Do you mind if I ask why you were an inmate?

Dr. McCoy screened all our medical volunteers, we're not exactly going to stop now, and we keep records of everyone who's been screened. We don't just let people walk in here and give them responsibilities for caring for patients. That would be mad.

That's a fair question. [A pause, but he continues.] I don't intend to practice in the same area that I've had issues with in the past. However, given that the Admiral and my warden have considered it appropriate that I've graduated, I don't see why my working in the infirmary in a more general sense should be an issue.

I would hope so. Did McCoy involve any of you in the process or was he the only individual involved in the screening?

Although, by this point, that's splitting hairs. McCoy appears to be more competent than I had assumed.

I doubt that he'd tell you, since he's not obliged to. But in the spirit of good faith, it was around hallucinogenic drugs. Unless the infirmary has gotten far more new age in its treatments in the past few weeks, it shouldn't come up.

I'm not so sure. If dying is can be a learning experience, there's no logical reason why he should prevent it from happening.

However, obviously that isn't the goal of the infirmary staff.

Considering my own background and experiences, I'm a firm believer that doctors should be held to a high level of scrutiny wherever they work.
