Dr Jonathan Crane. [A pause.] I would be particularly interested in individuals that used to be on the barge, if any of you are out there.

People still get taxed when they're dead? That's depressing.

Well, the taxman has to die too, you know.

Whilst entirely ignoring your own problems.

Shall I add superiority complex and attention seeking to the list?

And what makes you qualified enough to make said list?

One day you'll learn to be selective with what thoughts you verbalize.

Your version of death sounds a lot like life.

Believe me, I'm selective already.

Very little, in terms of qualifications.

The process and experience of noticing several of those flaws in myself, and correcting them, combined with years of experience trying to work out the causes and reasons for criminal behaviour. Which, I admit, I initially got gravely wrong, but matters have significantly improved, I believe. From what I read, I was the very first Well, I criminal psychologist on the Disc.

A warden? Hm. I'm not entirely certain my career lends itself to such a role... perhaps my experience in neurosurgery will impress this 'Admiral', or perhaps I can simply send some costumed cretin or another aboard to act as my agent. I imagine Lock-Up could transition quite seamlessly into such a position.

Perhaps it does.

2027. That's rather late.

I can imagine that it would be.

Well, considering the rather low bar for doctors here I'm sure that would be enough to qualify you as a warden.

I'm not entirely sure what this Lock-Up is. Some form of organization, I take it?

It's helpful. In its way.

Iago. He killed me recently before graduating and becoming a warden. As you can imagine, I am not pleased.

The Disc? [Pause. Crane vaugely remembers it.] Some parallel universe or another, I assume. But you can't seriously pretend to have any insight into how I am in one conversation after a number of months of separation.

Oh.

My dear Jonathan...you must continue as you were. Prove to him that you can graduate. You have been minding yourself lately, haven't you?

Ah, but that just gives you free reign to do as you wish, does it not?

Not hardly, my dear Doctor. He's just another one of the badly-dressed halfwits that have overrun Gotham like a circus act in my world. I take it from your confusion that they have not yet begun to infest the Gotham you call home.

You certainly seem to make a habit of it, Doctor.

I have. I don't know how I can prove it to him. If graduation is based on his judgment, due to our history it's very likely he'll never think that I'm ready.
