It's amazing how much all of you can talk in one day. This is some kind of flood, I assume?

Oh, good show, Admiral. I'll keep in mind that abrupt disappearances are now one of the many punishment options that you offer alongside floods, ports and zero. Bravo.

I had to use that toxin for other purposes. It wasn't anything personal.

[Crane put his glass back on the table. This next topic, according to him, would have the most impact on his daily life on the barge.] Employment. [Crane frowned, leaning back in his chair.]

I gave this talk to Piper and I'll give it to you. Infirmary? Medical equipment. Lab? Scientific equipment. Pool, chemicals. Cleaning, chemicals. Garden, plants to make into chemicals. [Crane shrugged when he'd finished.] There's a very limited amount of places that I could actually work in.

"Don't care." [If it was something Crane had already discussed with his previous warden, then it was something Eames would have to do different. The thought of how badly his last warden had treated him almost made the forger genuinely upset, but instead he gave a light shrug.] "Do you want to work?"

[Crane thought that Eames was being somewhat dismissive of his point, but decided to ignore it.] Something to do wouldn't go amiss.

[Crane picked up his drink again, fiddling with it.] Aside from what flavor of the month the Admiral has decided to inflict on us, the barge's set of activities is rather limited.

"Then we'll find a job for you within the fortnight." [And with that, in Eames' mind, the matter was settled. He needed to ask around in order to find what occupation was appropriate, and he would have to trust Crane more for some of it, but there didn't seem to be anything else that needed saying.]

A fortnight. [Crane repeated, looking at Eames with slight disbelief. He hadn't really expected for Eames to seriously find him something to do. None of his other wardens had ever done that.] You don't do things by halves, do you?

"Would you prefer I did?" [He asked with a chuckle. Then he took another sip of his drink. Eames was slightly discouraged not to see Crane drinking more since it meant he would have to be careful how much he drank, but there were always other opportunities.]

No, I don't think I would. [Crane took another sip of his drink. The ice cubes were starting to melt ever so slightly.] If anything, a warden who does too little can be more harmful than one who does too much.

[Not that Crane really knew - he'd only really had experience with the former before Eames.]

"Right then. In two weeks' time, I'll have found a selection of occupations for discussion." [Eames jumped on the reveal, though his nonchalance remained intact. He gave another small chuckle as if to emphasize how amusing he found all of this and Crane's pessimism overall before finally asking.] "Tell me about your history with the wardens."

My history with the wardens. [Crane took a sip of his drink, taking a few moments to consider. Most of his history with various wardens was reasonably unpleasant for everyone involved. The fear toxin in the dining hall hadn't won him any friends. He decided to try and make the subject a little more specific, to avoid bringing up that mess.] Would you like to hear about any wardens in particular?

"Not at all. I'll take anything you're willing to tell me." [The warden shifted to sit back in his chair again, taking another sip of his drink. More than anything, he wanted Crane to loosen up a little. Even just once.]

Paddy killed me once. [Crane said, deciding to begin on the thing that actively bothered him the most. He shrugged and took another sip of his drink before continuing.] I hate Howie. He's too self righteous.

[Eames' eyebrows lifted at that.] "When did Paddy kill you and why?"

[There was no decent reply to Howie being self righteous. Even Eames had told him to lighten up.]

Months ago, during a port. He shot me. [Crane took another long sip of his drink. He certainly hadn't forgiven Paddy for what had happened in that port.] There's nothing like knowing what it feels like to bleed out on the floor.

"Mm." [Something about that single noise suggested that Eames understood.] "Did he apologize?"

He did. [Crane paused. He sounded bitter.] He said because it was a port it wasn't his fault. As if that changes anything.

"Have you ever killed anyone here?" [It was, like most of Eames' remarks, a sincere question rather than any kind of probing or accusation. The warden took a sip of his drink after he asked, dropping his feet from the table and crossing them casually instead.]

[Crane noticed Eames' movements and was tempted to read them as discomfort, if not for the fact that Eames didn't sound disturbed in the slightest.] Not directly. I've never shot anyone. I've never killed any of them with my bare hands.

"Indirectly?" [He was still void of judgment, his tone almost amused more than anything else.]

A few. I didn't bother counting. [That was true. Crane hadn't been all that interested in the fallout after the dining hall incident. Crane's indifference probably showed in his tone.]

"Would you prefer to begin with why or how?" [Eames took another sip of his drink, watching with the same curiosity and idle excitement he viewed Crane with most of the time. The forger loved a good challenge.]

Fear toxin. [Crane said simply. Eames probably knew enough about the toxin to make his own conclusions about that aspect of it.] And because I could.

"Perfect segue." [Eames flashed a smile, leaving that topic at that; Capa had already told him about most of it and Eames had learned that pushing Crane for information only got him some, but refusing to listen for a time got him more.] "I need to know whether you told Edward about the fear toxin as you were telling me."

['Need' was not a word Eames threw around lightly.]
