doctor_j_crane: Crane looking like he's arguing. (Let me explain)
[personal profile] doctor_j_crane
You know, after all the months fawning after Adam I'd imagined that some of you would tire of his presence. But all I hear in the dining hall is about Adam. "Adam saved me during a flood." This person had a tryst with Adam. Adam is such a wonderful person.

Well, let me tell you a story about Adam, barge. It was during a particularly nasty port where myself and a former barge member called Irene Adler were stuck in a ward, attempting to avoid being gruesomely murdered by no less than one dozen undead patients. Despite Adler's skills and my efforts, we were unable to hold off the hoards of undead. You can understand our surprise when Adam burst into the room and started assisting us. We managed to kill the zombies, following a rather ingenious plan of Adam's involving a puddle of water and some faulty wiring on one of the medical machines.

Do you see the problem with this story, barge? Adam could have killed both Adler and I. But he was so wrapped up in his heroics that he failed to consider that some of us might not want to get electrocuted. He simply didn't care. Instead, he forced his plan on us and hoped for the best. [Crane does not sound impressed.] Classical Adam. No sense of boundaries, no urge to ask permission or for the input of others. And yet, he seems to be one of the most well known people on board. I fail to understand his appeal.

[Rant over. Crane pauses for a few moments.] Hayley. Claire. Nygma. I want to talk to you three. Despite my continuing lack of filters.

[OOC: Sorry, Adam. Crane is so emotionally functional in how he shows his respect. Also, his flood affected-ness is to be more empathetic, so he might feel bad if you bring up past issues. Although you might not be able to tell.]

Oh I see a problem. I see a big fucking problem.

Of course it's pointless given the nature of the barge but one person who actually manages to do something deserves to be cherished.

Jealous?

Of Adam? I don't think so. Considering that most of the people on the barge including yourself disgust me, I can't really say that I'm 'jealous' of someone who constantly surrounds himself with them.

Don't put me down. I'm in the right here. John's work is about punishment. How many times have I had to explain that so you understand?

[Friends lead to having morals lead to angst when those friends go away. Having all of your morality erased usually means you enjoy things like punishment]

And yet you parrot all the rest of us, poor disgusting people. Except instead of moving forward you just stand there screaming for attention. Good luck with being delusional.

Delusional? It's ironic to hear that from you, who spends half his time obsessing over a dead serial killer and the other half murdering people. That isn't 'punishment'. That's self gratification. You enjoy what you do. You enjoy watching them die and you point to this John to try and justify it to yourself. Good luck with being a delusional psychopath, Hoffman.

A psychopath? Me? [He smiles a crazy smile] And just what the hell are you doing here? I think we're all crazy enough don't you?

Besides. Truth be told? Deep down? John never went far enough.

I'm here for reasons that are obviously beyond your very limited understanding.

I don't care about John. He's probably imaginary.

...[very sly smile] Do you always talk that way to psychopaths?

I do. [Pause.] I suppose this is the point that I add you to the list of people who could potentially kill me in the next month or so.

It's no fun to just kill you. Punishment is about making people aware of the crimes they've committed.

[implying. Torture's much more fun.]

How interesting. Do you care to go into further specifics?

Do you know why Justice carries a sword?

I'm sure that Nygma could tell me.

Justice carries a sword because she represents nemesis-the goddess of divine retribution in ancient Rome. Justice can be mete out swiftly, but the whole point is to have people learn. It's about retribution. You can't do that without making the message stick.

If not. People. People like you can talk their way out of it.

That's what John never understood. Some people don't deserve a chance. You have to force a wrongdoer to suffer the same or greater pain than that which was originally inflicted.

How interesting. I'll be sure to tell my warden about your threats, insane rambling and imaginary friend.
