I’m out of zero, since the warden administration decided to get their act together. [Eye roll, Crane’s obviously not impressed with the time he spent down there.]

Unsurprisingly, nothing has changed. Good job though, with getting rid of the fear gas mess so far. The dining hall is looking quite pleasant. You could almost eat your lunch there without thinking about someone getting murdered where your chair is. [Crane just smiles at the camera for a long moment, before flicking it off.]

[Private – Irene Adler]

I don’t suppose you know anything about this? [Crane holds up a wad of paper which appears to be a file on Irene, with a kiss in lipstick on the top. He’s put it in a plastic sleeve to avoid touching the icky lady germs.]

I’m out of zero, finally, but you’re not in the infirmary. Where are you?

[Rose laughed again, leaning back as the cider began to take hold.]

Strange how they think we do not care. Or that we cannot care, simply because we hold no love for them.

They assume that how we act towards them is how we act towards everyone else. [If there was one thing Crane hated, it was people in positions of authority over him. He knew that it tended to show. He looked down at his cider.]

This is rather strong, isn't it?

[She shrugged.] Not particularly strong at all. [A half lie.] Does it make you nervous, Doctor Crane?

I'm not nervous. [Crane swirled his cider around in the cup.] I've just never been particularly partial to alcohol.

[The memory of the flood that had inebriated them all crossed her mind and raised one shoulder in a noncommittal sort of shrug.] It is not necessarily a bad thing, when consumed wisely. At the moment, it is simply a drink among... friends.

Yes, quite so. [Crane didn't want to think about the drunk flood. That was not a good time at all.]

To friends. [Crane offers her a toast, because it seems like a friendly thing to do.]

[She raised her own glass and nodded.] To friends. [Well, it was a standard toast, one that she could truly get behind. At least in his case.] Are you planning on staying here, Doctor, or should we travel back to your room?

[Crane shrugs.] I don't particularly mind, but I understand how my room might have negative connotations for you.

[She almost, ALMOST showed a bit of relief there, but managed to keep it contained.]

Yes, it does. But that is not something I'm going to dwell on. We shouldn't dwell on our past too much. It will skew our perception of the present.

Yes. We can hardly change what happened. [Crane pauses. He feels guilty.] I don't mind staying here, if you'd like.

[She gave him a compassionate look that was actually very genuine.]

Thank you, Jonathan. [She looked away, not wanting to show any more of that pesky emotion.]

[Crane felt strange. Positive. Which was very odd. He promptly ignored it.]

Yes. I should go down and collect some things. [He's already making a list in his brain.]
