doctor_j_crane: Crane looking neutral. (Distance)

My new warden is a detective. The irony is not lost on me, Admiral. [Sigh.] It does make one wonder. Does anyone actually like their warden?

[Private - Hayley]

Is your warden likely to search your room?

[Private - Rose (Wicker Man)]

I need a favor. It's nothing serious, just minding a few of my things.

[Private - Riddler]

I need to talk to you regarding my sample of the fear toxin. [Assuming Crane has it after he made it, but he wants to give it to Eddie for safekeeping.]

[Private - Irene]

I need to know what you took when you went into my room. It's nothing personal, I'm just keeping track of things.

[Closet - Eighth Floor.]

[Mysteriously has some plants appear on the very top shelf, pushed far back and hidden behind an old box. Also a bucket of potting soil placed on the very bottom shelf on the opposite side.]

[Crane, being smarter than your average scarecrow, realizes that Pookie's likely to search his room. He's trying to split up the naughty things that he does have, so if parts of it get lots there'll still be some left. He's also leaving some things in his room to be found, hoping that Pookie will assume that he's found all of Crane's secret stash.

That said, for Pookie's sake, here's a list of what's still in his room: a small amount of 'hidden' plant samples in the back of his desk, the very bottom part of the radio antenna that Crane actually missed on the floor behind the desk and numerous notes on 'fear toxin' (some in the desk, some folded up and placed into the books on his shelf). There's also a sheet of information labelled 'antidote - fear toxin (personal use)' which is very much not an antidote to fear toxin There's also a plastic tank with a spider hanging out in it.

The objects that Crane's hoping to give out/hiding include, for me own records: bucket of potting soil (bucket [Loki], soil [Adam]), fold out radio antenna in pieces [Mikhail], plant samples (numerous - from the garden), one sample of actual fear toxin [Riddler], instructions for one version of a truth serum [Crane] and numerous notes regarding potential fear toxins that have been copied out into the pages of very boring books [Crane/Crane's room].]

That's true. [Crane took another sip of his cider. He was getting rather used to the taste of it.] I've always been a fan of pre-emptive strikes as well.

[Setting her drink down on the table, she settled back down on the floor, taking out the next blouse she was going to mend. A new color of thread and a new needle to fight with.]

This isn't a strike. This is you be cautious.

I am being cautious. [Crane sat down, and took another long sip of his cider.] My warden is yet to display any traits but idoicy, yet I'm still being prepared.

[Sighing in annoyance as her thread refused to go through the eye of the needle, she looked over to him.]

The idiots are the ones to watch out for. The last idiot warden I had got me killed. I'm sure you remember.

[Crane did. That had probably been his least favorite warden of Rose's so far. He watched her with the thread and needle for a second, before speaking again.]

Well, your current warden is better comparatively. But I see your point.

[She finally threaded the needle and tied it, cutting it with a pair of scissors after she was finished. Then...she set to work.]

Oh yes. My current warden is quite interesting. I do enjoy him.

[Crane was still watching Rose so, focusing on the steady movement of the needle.]

Well, there's something. I gather that he's still been oblidging? [That, of all things, was what Crane preferred in a warden.]

Of course. Though we're beginning to get into what I need to do to graduate, and it's the same tiresome story. [She adjusted the seam and then turned it upside down, checking the stitching idly.]

I know there has to be another way off of this ship.

Oh, that. [Crane sighed dramatically.] Yes, they all seem to do the whole bonding business and then slip into the moralizing. We acted for the best, something that they seem determined to ignore. [Or at least, Crane thought that he did act for the best, whereas Rose only thought that she did. But it seemed like splitting hairs.]

There's a way off this ship. Those ports we've been visiting? Sooner or later, we'll arrive at a world we know. [Hopefully.]

Or one that we can tolerate living in. [She wasn't going to be picky. If they found a place remotely like her own, she would be gone.]

The worlds that we encounter, however, are always either dangerous...or there is some sinister undertone.

True. [Frankly, Crane wasn't too intent on searching out a world where he had a criminal record and the Batman.]

Yes. The most pleasant, if you'd call it that, that we've had was technically the carnival one, if you ignore the conflicts between the town and the carnival. [Pause.] And if one could tolerate living in the past for a great deal of time.
