One never realizes how pleasant the room system is until one is forced into close proximity with others. Still, I suppose the infirmary does what it can given that they're far from a trained medical team. It's almost adequate, especially given the bizarre medical situations that they're faced with. It's a pity that qualified inmates aren't allowed to take any significant role. [Subtle hinting there Crane.]

[Private - Ms Rose]

I'll need the key to my room back. I trust that everything went well?

[Private - Edward Nygma]

I need to talk to you about using your equipment. It's for something slightly different than in the past. I also need to pick up my sample of the fear toxin.

[Private - Piper]

[Pause at the start before Crane starts talking.] I haven't told anyone about the situation with your son. I don't intend to do so. It's too much leverage for any other inmates.

Private - But of course!

I will be in the library most of the day.

I'll see you momentarily.

[Crane was glad to be out of the infirmary. It had been getting rather claustrophobic, an irrational fear get still one that grated at him. It was good to be moving, despite the ache in his chest. He went to the library quickly, entering and scanning the room for Rose.]

[There were a stack of books next to her as Rose sat at a table, a notebook beside her. She was writing down a few notes here and there. The titles of the books all seemed to center around theology and history.]

[Crane saw her and walked over, taking in her choice of books.] Catching up on some research? Or has it been a slow week? [It certainly had been in the infirmary.]

I just want to get my facts straight. [Without Summerisle as a guide, she would have to figure it all out on her own. Her schooling could only get her so far. She had never done this sort of ritual on her own. She pulled his key from a pocket and handed it over to him.]

[Crane didn't have anything to say about that. He wasn't under the impression that he could provide any more clarity as to what kind of spiritual crisis he assumed Rose was going through. So he decided to find out why.] Have you been talking to Howie again?

[She laughed.]

No, certainly not. Why do you ask?

Just curious. [If Rose was going to brush off the question, so was Crane. He sat down at the table, and picked up one of the books to read the blurb.] Have you found anything of interest?

[She moved her eyes from the print to check which one he had chosen. When she didn't feel anxious about him knowing it, she looked back down.]

Actually yes. I'm attempting to find a way to celebrate my festival...in a way that would be appropriate for this place.

[She smiled at him warmly, genuinely in a good mood. Now that her plan was getting started, she felt much...lighter.]

Without Lord Summerisle as a guide, I want to make sure that I am not going to cause offense to the gods.

[Considering the rather clinical nature of most of the barge, Crane doubted that Rose would have much success with a nature based festival. Unless metal counted as sufficiently natural, which Crane doubted. Still, Rose seemed to be in a good mood.]

I'm sure the gods would forgive you even if you did. [Crane shrugged slightly. He didn't think that it would make any difference if the 'gods' did or didn't appreciate it.]

[She snickered a bit at that and reached over, placing a hand on top of the book he had just looked at.]

You don't believe in what I believe. You don't have to pretend to care. I'm doing this for my benefit.

Even if I don't believe it, I care that you care. [Which was partially true, at best, but seemed like a pleasant thing to say. Crane spent a second looking at her hand, but decided not to comment on it.]

[The hand had simply been to gain his attention. So, now that she had it, she moved back and turned a page in her own book.]

I suppose that's a pleasant surprise, then. [And really, she was flattered somewhat by it. But it was only her good mood that did it.]

Jonathan, [And here she hesitated, as she still, after all this time, wasn't sure if she could trust him.] you would consider us friends, wouldn't you?

[Crane found that question decidedly awkward. On top of that, Eddie asking the same question not long ago meant that Crane now considered his suspicions about Rose and Eddie talking behind his back confirmed. Which was not a paranoid thought at all. Certainly not.]

I suppose I would, yes. [If talking with Eddie had shown anything, avoiding the topic did not end well.]
